Civic education and media literacy trainings for students and teachers are being started by the European institute under the CLASS project. It includes over 350 teachers and nearly 300 students.

How young people to become active and media literate citizens – a matter that students from 11th and 12th grade from 14 cities in our country are going to be educated about. The CLASS project starts from the new school year, shares Borislav Mavrov, the programme director of the European Institute Foundation.

“I would like to say that it is crucial for them to analyze what is happening around them, to create a set of skills that would allow them to orient by themselves not only on the political map, but also to build their own life map that rests on plenty of objective data and gives them the opportunity to always use arguments, rather than accepting what someone tells them.”

Before the practical start, 2 manuals will be prepared. The media expert Yoanna Nikolova will also take part in their creating.

"Even in a situation like the current one - this situation of tension of the whole society not only in Bulgaria, but all over the world, when a person has the opportunity to read in advance enough information from reliable sources, to form an opinion by themselves, a behavior that will certainly help them in panic circumstances to keep calm and to act rationally."

The project will cover students from Ihtiman, Samokov, Panagyurishte, Shumen, Silistra, Targovishte, Haskovo, Kardzhali.

"The project will end with an innovative camp in which the best school teams we will work with will be able to join and devote 3 days to journalistic events. They will make broadcasts, they will make reports, they will create their own content in the form of articles, interviews”.
